CVM Research Day 2011

Graduate student poster presentations:

Third place (tie):  Jonathan Greene and Guohua Yang

First place graduate student oral and poster presenters each receive a $500 travel award from the CVM Office of Research and Graduate Studies.

Vet student oral presenters were:
Ashley Adams, Ryan Bear, Michael Orencole, Rachel Smith, Ashlee Oliver, and Lauren Phillips

Ryan Bear and Rachel Smith will have the opportunity to give their presentations at the 2012 Winter MVMA Meeting.

Again this year I want to thank Dr. John Harkness for his excellent work in organizing the 2011 CVM Research Day, and I also want to thank the CVM ORGS staff, Stephanie Huffman, Leslie Hammons, and Michael Dewberry, for all the behind-the-scenes effort that make Research Day possible.

August Employee of the Month

Congratulations to Mrs. Linda Crowley, CVM’s August Employee of the Month!

Linda is the Business Coordinator in the Dean’s Office, a role she has been in for 14 years.  Her career at MSU will span 26 years this October.  She credits her long stint at CVM to enjoying what she does and loving those she works with and for.  Linda is a Maben native, with two sons and two grandchildren.   She enjoys her church, swimming, being in her yard, and supporting her grandchildren at sporting events.

MISSISSIPPI STATE - The services at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine reach far beyond the university and the surrounding community.

July Employee of the Month

Congratulations to Mr. John Stokes, CVM's July Employee of the Month!

John is a Research Associate III and Director of the Flow Cytrometry Core Facility.  He has been in this position and with MSU for four years.   He and his wife, Dr. Andrea Varela-Stokes, who is an Assistant Professor at CVM, have a son, Marco, who is 2 1/2.  In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his family.

COPE 2011


The CVM class of 2015 students, participated in the Camp Seminole project C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience).  COPE is a unique and fun way for the new students to get to know each other through activities that require communication, teamwork, trust, leadership, and decision making skills.

Vaccinating pets reduces rabies risk

MISSISSIPPI STATE – All species of mammals are susceptible to rabies, but pet owners can create a line of defense with a few simple precautions.
Bill Epperson, head of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine, said the rabies virus is generally transmitted through the bite of an infected animal.
